IOC President expresses solidarity and support to Iranian Olympic community

Tehran, Iran, July 16, 2025: IOC President Kirsty Coventry has expressed condolences, solidarity and support to the Iranian Olympic community in a letter addressed to Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, the President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iran NOC stated that in a recent correspondence received from IOC President Kirsty Coventry, she wrote:

"Dear President,

"Thank you for the self-explanatory letter dated 23 June 2025 informing us of the tragic consequences of the recent military conflict on the Iranian Olympic community.

"First of all, please allow me to express my sincerest condolences and thoughts for the innocent victims of this conflict and their families. As you know, the IOC stands for peace, harmony and solidarity, and please be rest assured that, in the current international context more than ever, the IOC will continue to do its utmost at all levels to promote and safeguard the Fundamental Principles of Olympism and the Olympic values, and particularly the unifying power of sport. 

"Under these tragic circumstances, let me reiterate the IOC’s full support and solidarity to your NOC and to the Iranian Olympic community as a whole. Thank you for your valuable collaboration and continuous efforts to promote the Olympic values, and we remain fully at your disposal for any specific assistance you might need."
