OCA Executive Board approves sports programme for 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya

Kuwait City, Kuwait, July 15, 2025: An exciting sports programme for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026 was approved at the 96th OCA Executive Board meeting on Tuesday, July 15.

The online meeting, which was chaired by OCA First Vice President Timothy Fok, unanimously approved the sports programme for the September 19 to October 4 showpiece.

The Games will boast a total of 41 sports, 68 disciplines and 460 events. There will be 217 men's events, 204 women's events and 39 mixed events.

The 41 sports are: aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball (also 3x3), boxing, breaking, canoe/kayaking, combat sports (jiu-jitsu, kurash, MMA), cricket (T20), cycling, equestrian, esports, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby (7s), sailing, sepak takraw, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, squash, surfing, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

“Now that the Executive Board has approved the final sports programme for the Aichi-Nagoya Games, it will be circulated to all 45 Asian National Olympic Committees, Asian Federations and International Federations,” said OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam.

This will allow NOCs to comply with the next steps in the accreditation process of athletes – which is Entry by Number followed by Entry by Name.

The Executive Board also decided that a One Asia cultural performance will be held during the one-year countdown for the 20th Asian Games on September 22, 2025, in Nagoya, Japan.

Japan will be hosting the Asian Games for the third time, having previously held it in 1958 (Tokyo), and 1994 (Hiroshima).
