Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 10, 2025: With an eye on their hosting of the OCA’s fourth Asian Youth Games in 2029, Cambodia organised a level C volleyball coaching course from June 30 to July 5.
Cambodia will host the 4th AYG in 2029, following the third edition due to be held in Bahrain this October, and the National Olympic Committee is making sure all sports are primed and ready to compete in four years’ time.
The Olympic Solidarity-funded course was organised by the Volleyball Federation of Cambodia and NOCC and conducted by FIVB-certified Dusan Jarotta, a lecturer from the International Volleyball Federation.
A total of 45 local coaches attended the course, including 13 women, from 33 clubs and provincial education departments.
Jarotta praised the Cambodian coaches for their eagerness to learn and their dedication throughout the programme, according to the Khmer Times.
“I was impressed by the attention, teamwork and willingness to learn,” he said. “As coaches, we must have a clear vision. It helps us understand what to do and where we want to be.”
He encouraged the participants to enjoy their journey while embracing their roles as leaders and mentors. “We have a very important job—to guide, lead and inspire. But it’s equally important to enjoy the path we’re on,” he added.
Aing Serey Piseth, Secretary-General of the VFC, added: “This is a rare chance for local coaches to learn directly from an FIVB expert. Before this, most coaches learnt informally, which left gaps in their knowledge.
“Better coaches lead to better players,” he noted. “When coaches understand international techniques and rules, they can train athletes more effectively.”
