Manila, Philippines, July 10, 2025: The President of the Philippine Olympic Committee, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, has stressed that partnership and teamwork with the government is the way forward for Philippine sports.
In a Facebook post, the POC President welcomed the appointment of Patrick “Pato” C. Gregorio as the new Chairman of the government’s Philippine Sports Commission. Gregorio is a former Chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association.
“Building a stronger future for Philippine sports means moving in step in harmony. We are one with the Philippine Sports Commission,” Tolentino posted.
“The POC - Philippine Olympic Committee fully supports the revitalized direction of the PSC under Chairman Pato Gregorio, working with our athletes at the heart of every stride.”
Tolentino made the comments following the Athletes, Coaches and National Sports Associations General Assembly.
The Philippine News Agency reported on June 28 that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. had designated Patrick Gregorio as the new head of the Philippine Sports Commission.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed in a text message that Gregorio would be replacing Richard Bachmann, a former PBA player who was appointed to the top PSC post in December 2022.
