Ramallah, Palestine, April 13, 2020: The Palestine Olympic Committee reports that Gen. Jibril Rajoub, President of the POC and of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports, held a meeting on Sunday, April 12 with leading sports officials to discuss the latest developments in the state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting focused in particular on the financial and administrative situations of the sports and youth sector as a result of the postponement of all sports activities on an international scale.

With the health and wellbeing of the public uppermost in the mind, it was decided that a review of the operational mechanisms of all sports and youth organisations would be conducted during the next week based on international and national developments and in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.

It was also agreed to continue to pay the salaries of employees in the sports sector, as previously approved.

The statement added that a financial loan from the Bank of Palestine would ensure the continuation of the sports movement until the end of the year under an emergency plan.

“We salute and appreciate the efforts of all the medical, security and information teams working in the field to ensure the safety and security of our people,” said the statement from the Higher Council for Youth and Sports.

“We also pay tribute to the efforts of all volunteers who supported the national effort to combat the pandemic,” the statement added, referring to the process of raising awareness and of organising and providing assistance to people in all regions.

“We hope life will return to normal as soon as possible. May God protect Palestine and its people and safe for all,” the statement concluded.
