Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan boost sports cooperation

Almaty, Kazakhstan, July 7, 2025: Top officials from the Ministry of Sport of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the National Olympic Committees of both countries, met last week in Almaty to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in sports.

The bilateral meeting was attended by the Minister of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erbol Myrzabosynov, and the Minister of Sport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Adkham Ikramov.

The event was also attended by the President of the Kazakhstan NOC, Gennadiy Golovkin, and the first deputy chairman of the Uzbekistan NOC, Otabek Umarov, and heads of various departments including Paralympic Committees.

During the talks, both parties discussed current areas of bilateral cooperation, including the training of sports personnel, the development of Paralympic sports and the implementation of joint initiatives in the field of national sports.

Discussions were also held on the staging of a friendly football match between the national teams of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the participation of the Uzbek delegation in the Games of the Future which will be held in Astana in 2026.

“Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are strategic partners in the field of sport. We are united by common goals, historical and cultural ties. I am confident that the expansion of practical cooperation between our countries will give a new impetus to the development of the sports industry,” the Kazakh Minister of Sport said.

Gennadiy Golovkin added: “The Kazakhstan NOC is always open to cooperation and respects the initiatives of our colleagues. It is especially valuable when it comes to joint work within the Olympic movement. Such meetings strengthen partnership and open up new opportunities for the development of sport in our countries.”
