Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 26, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka celebrated International Olympic Day 2025 with a march on Wednesday, June 25, at the historic Galle Fort on the southern tip of the island.
Over 200 participants including senior officials from the Ministry of Sports and the Sri Lanka NOC took part in the march. Also in attendance were national athletes, schoolchildren, university students and representatives from national sports federations.
The event, aligned with the global Olympic Day theme "Let’s Move", started at the Football Ground in Galle, skirted the perimeter of the famous Test cricket ground in the shadow of the 16th Century Portuguese Fort and ended at the Hall de Galle where the main ceremony took place.
A ceremonial placing of the Olympic torch and traditional cultural performances were also part of the event.
“Today, we celebrated the spirit of the Olympic Movement: Excellence, Friendship and Respect, and the power of sport to unite people across borders, cultures and generations. Let’s keep moving, keep learning and keep discovering through sports,” the NOC posted.
