Hanoi, Vietnam, June 25, 2025: The Vietnam Olympic Committee has set its sights on defending its SEA Games crown at this year’s event in Thailand.
Two years ago, when Cambodia hosted the SEA Games for the first time, Vietnam topped the medal table with 136 gold, followed by Thailand (108) and Indonesia (87).
This year’s SEA Games, the 33rd edition of the regional sports festival, will take place in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla from December 9-20.
“With the goal of winning 80–100 gold medals, Vietnamese sports are speeding up preparation for SEA Games 33 in Thailand,” the VOC stated in a social media post.
“Powerful sports such as athletics, swimming and martial arts are determined to bring glory to the country and help the Vietnamese team maintain its position as No. 1 in the region. Let's cheer for our athletes!”
The SEA Games, held every two years, brings together 11 nations from Southeast Asia, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
In Thailand there will be 50 sports, 66 disciplines and 574 events, plus three demonstration sports with 12 events.
