Kuwait City, Kuwait, June 19, 2025: The 45th OCA General Assembly in Kuwait takes centre stage in the new edition of Sporting Asia for June 2025.
The General Assembly took place over two days, with the opening ceremony and One Asia cultural performance on May 11 and the business part of the assembly the following day.
The event was memorable not only because it was held in the home and the heartbeat of the OCA – Kuwait, the Olympic Capital of Asia – but also because it was graced by the presence of IOC President Thomas Bach and IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry.
President Bach addressed the opening ceremony, while the seven-time Olympic swimming medallist Coventry pledged her continued support for Asia and the OCA during her speech at the General Assembly.
Sporting Asia devotes six pages of reports and photos to the 45th OCA General Assembly.
Elsewhere in the 48 pages, Sporting Asia reports on the OCA/Olympic Solidarity Regional Forum in Bhutan and Tajikistan, the OCA AI Technology and E-Sports Seminar in Kuwait and the second OCA Gender Equity Seminar in Brunei Darussalam.
The “Asian Games for All” campaign to promote the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026 is also up and running, with photo galleries from the first four legs of the fun run circuit in Bhutan, Tajikistan, Brunei and Uzbekistan, as well as news on the Asian Games Children’s Art Competition and Asian Games Youth Reporter Project.
The OCA’s busy calendar of multi-sport games is reflected with updates on the Bahrain Asian Youth Games this October and the 20th Asian Games in Japan and 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Riyadh, both in 2026. Sporting Asia also reports on the return of the Asian Beach Games, which will be held in Sanya, China in April 2026.
Our “Women in Sport” section, which now carries the OCA Gender Equity Committee theme of “Watch Her Shine”, reports on the rise of Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul of Thailand to President of the Badminton World Federation, and the appointment of IOC Executive Board member Mikee Cojuangco Jaworski of the Philippines to IOC Coordination Commission Chair for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
There are special reports on the incoming IOC President Kirsty Coventry and the changes in the event programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games which will affect all Asian National Olympic Committees.
Sporting Asia was launched by the OCA in 2009 and is published quarterly. This June 2025 newsletter marks the 69th edition.
