Hong Kong, China, June 22, 2025: The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China hosted the 2025 Olympic Day Fun Run at Hong Kong Science Park on Sunday, June 22.
The event aimed to promote Olympism and advocate “sport for all”. For the first time, a 3km Torch Relay Run was introduced to garner public support for Hong Kong athletes competing in the 15th National Games co-organized by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao this November. Among the participants were Hong Kong athletes who served as torchbearers for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, echoing this year’s theme “Run with Hong Kong Athletes”.
Ms. Manda Chan, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services; Mr. Edgar Yang, Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC; Mr. Tong Wai Lun, Vice President and Chair of the SF&OC Olympic Day Organizing Committee, and a number of SF&OC officers officiated the event ceremony.
Mr. Tong said: ‘‘Beyond competition, sport serves as a vital bridge that connects people in the communities and promotes a healthy lifestyle. The 15th National Games will be held this November, with Hong Kong hosting eight competition events. Hong Kong athletes are preparing for the Games, and we call on everyone to continue to support our athletes.”
The 2025 Olympic Day Fun Run featured a 5km individual run, a 3km family fun run and the new 3km torch relay run, attracting more than 3,000 participants.
The Torch Relay Run was conducted in groups of three, with each group receiving a torch for the relay, offering participants an experience of Olympic values through passing the torch on. Each participating group could take home the torch upon completion. Joining fellow runners in the torch relay run were Shek Wai Hung (gymnastics) and Lee Ka Man (rowing), torchbearers at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games; Rico Cheung (athletics) and Sally Tang (lacrosse), who were featured in the 2025 Olympic Day promotional video, and Stephanie Au (swimming), the inaugural SF&OC Olympic Ambassador.
In addition to the Fun Run, a number of sports-themed and family-friendly booths were set up on-site to commemorate Olympic Day. From June to August, various National Sports Associations will host a series of community sports events and trial fun days, inviting the public to take part in diverse sporting activities and experience Olympic values firsthand.
The SF&OC has been organising Olympic Day celebrations since 1987.
