Tashkent, Uzbekistan, June 12, 2025: The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is also the President of the National Olympic Committee, has presented the national football team with state awards after the historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup.
President Mirziyoyev, who was at the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent to watch the national team defeat Qatar 3-0 in a FIFA World Cup Asian qualifier on Tuesday, presented the players with state awards and cars.
Uzbekistan had qualified for a first-ever FIFA World Cup when they drew with the United Arab Emirates 0-0 last week. It booked them one of the eight berths for Asia at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Uzbekistan NOC posted: “According to the presidential decree, our players who showed heroism in the qualifying round were presented state awards. Our guys were also presented with a presidential gift – BYD cars.”
Other Asian teams who have already qualified for the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup are Jordan – also for the first time – South Korea, Japan and Iran.
