Baghdad, Iraq, June 12, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq in collaboration with the Spanish Olympic Committee has taken the first steps in developing coaches of national teams.

The Iraq NOC Secretary General Haitham Abdul Hamid unveiled details of the programme at the NOC headquarters attended by Spanish expert Ignasi Fabregas – who has been in the country preparing a blueprint for the development of sport – and Dr. Terres Oudicho, who will oversee the project.

“The Executive Office has decided to form a special department for coaches, headed by Dr. Terres Oudicho, aimed at developing the standards of our local coaches. This project will be in collaboration with the Spanish Olympic Committee,” Secretary General Abdul Hamid said.

The first step will be a course headlined "General Training for National Coaches" to be held from June 28-30 in Baghdad and conducted by qualified lecturers from the Spanish Olympic Committee.

Abdul Hamid said: “This course will not be dedicated to a specific sport but will deal with the general aspects of training and development. It will end with an assessment exam aimed at raising the standards of our national coaches.”

The NOC Secretary General added that moves were afoot to provide exceptional coaches with advanced training in the United States – as part of a long-term goal of raising the standards of coaching in Iraq.
