Thimphu, Bhutan, June 11, 2025: The Bhutan Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Embassy of India and the Nehru Wangchuck Cultural Centre held a yoga session for athletes.

Athletes, teachers and BOC staff participated in the yoga session at the BOC Headquarters in Thimphu as part of the lead-up to International Yoga Day.

The session focused on promoting yoga for physical and mental well-being and brought together 48 participants, including athletes from various sports federations, teachers from Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School and BOC officials and staff.

The programme featured a 45-minute basic yoga practice. The focus was on raising awareness about the importance of yoga in daily life and highlighting yoga’s role in enhancing physical health, mental clarity and inner peace.

International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, was first proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

It received overwhelming support from 177 countries, including Bhutan, and has been observed globally since 2015.
