Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, June 5, 2025: HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal Al Saud, President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, was appointed as a member of the Olympic Refuge Foundation Board during its meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday, June 2.
IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach and IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry welcomed the Saudi Olympic Committee head on to the Board of Directors.
The SOPC stated this recognition was due to the central role the Kingdom plays in advancing humanitarian principles and being among the leading countries in the world providing aid to refugees.
The Olympic Refuge Foundation, established in 2017, is an IOC initiative aiming to provide sustainable and long-term support to refugees and displaced people around the world through sport.
The Foundation seeks to provide safe and inclusive sporting environments that promote mental and physical health, enabling refugees to integrate and advance personal and social development.
The Foundation works with over 80 different organisations worldwide to provide easy access to sports for refugees.
