Iran and Japan push for closer cooperation in sports

Tehran, Iran, May 27, 2025: The Japanese Ambassador to Iran, Mr. Tsukada Tamaki, visited the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday, May 24.

 

Mr. Tamaki was received at the NOC headquarters by NOC President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, Secretary General Dr. Mahdi Alinejad, Executive Board member and Golf Federation President Dr. Hamid Azizi, Advisors to NOC President Farid Fattahian and Arash Farhadian and other NOC officials.

 

NOC President Khosravi Vafa expressed his happiness that Iran will be represented at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

 

“We are ready to conclude a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese National Olympic Committee in sports in order to promote closer cooperation between both countries,” revealed Khosravi Vafa.

 

The Japanese Ambassador, who was also shown around the Iranian National Sports Museum, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the museum and learned about the history of sports in this country. As the Japanese Ambassador, I would like to have more bilateral cooperation with Iran in sports.

 

“We are willing to increase the level of cooperation between the two sides through the disciplines of martial arts and mogul skiing. Sports are the only field of cooperation that will not have any restrictions in interaction, and we are ready to develop bilateral cooperation,” Mr. Tamaki added.
