Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 26, 2025: The Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Husain Al Musallam, received the Mayor of Haiyang City, Madam Jiang Dan, at the OCA Headquarters in Kuwait on Monday, May 26.
Mayor Jiang outlined the legacy of Haiyang City following the hosting of the 3rd Asian Beach Games in 2012, and the vast strides the city has made in promoting sports, so much so that Haiyang is now known as the ‘Capital of Beach Games’ in China.
Another feature of the city introduced to OCA officials was the Space Rocket Launching Observation Tourism Programme – the launch pad being just 2.5 kilometres from Haiyang beach.
For the 2012 Asian Beach Games, the Haiyang Government built a new district covering an area of 20 square kilometres. The facilities included a Games Village, Heqing Island Stadium, an International Conference Centre and 60 other high-standard facilities, turning the once wasteland into modern communities.
It was revealed that since the multi-sport event was staged in June, 2012, the city has successfully staged a number of high-level international sports events including the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, and the Tokyo Olympics Beach Volleyball Qualification Tournament.
The visiting delegation also included Mrs. Zhuang Ying, Deputy Director, Yantai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Mrs. Gao Junyan, Deputy Director General, Yantai Foreign Affairs Office, and Mrs. Wang Haiyang, Director Asia Section III, Foreign Affairs Office.
