Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 19, 2025: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Olympic Committees has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s sports by approving full support for the Unified Platform for Gulf Women’s Sports.
This measure to boost women’s sports in the Gulf was taken during the 37th meeting of Presidents of the Olympic Committees of the GCC in Kuwait on May 11 – before the opening of the OCA 45th General Assembly.
The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, who commended the continuous efforts of the National Olympic Committees across the GCC for their pivotal role in advancing the Olympic and sports movement in the region.
The meeting adopted a unified platform to boost women’s sports in the Gulf and established the Gulf Women’s Sports Hackathon as a recurring event under the oversight of the Advisory Committee for Women’s Sports.
The Hackathon is a GCC-wide initiative focusing on boosting women’s sports. It explores topics like community sports, technology in sports, and new initiatives to empower women in sports.
The Council also granted Qatar hosting rights for the fourth Gulf Games in 2026 and approved Kuwait Olympic Committee’s request to host the second Gulf Youth Games in 2028. Additionally, the United Arab Emirates received approval to organise the inaugural Sports Law and Management Conference in 2026.
The meeting reviewed several key topics and a memorandum by the General Secretariat which detailed steps taken by member states to support the NOCs aiming to foster an environment conducive to creativity, athletic development, and excellence among Gulf athletes in the future.
The GCC comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
