Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 14, 2025: OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam welcomed the Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Mr. Li Jing, to the OCA HQ in Kuwait on Tuesday, May 13.
The meeting followed the 45th OCA General Assembly in Kuwait on May 11-12 and further strengthened the partnership and relationship between the OCA and COC.
As a former member of the Kuwait national swimming team, Captain Husain said he remembered well the participation of Chinese swimmers in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran.
Later, as an administrator with the OCA, Captain Husain began working with China 40 years ago in the build-up to the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing.
“I was very happy to continue my relationship with China as an athlete, administrator and OCA, and this is a very important relationship for China and for myself,” said Captain Husain, who is President of World Aquatics.
“I would like to congratulate China for what they have achieved in the development of sport inside mainland China and also for the positive impact in the development of Asian sport.
“Our relationship is built on trust, on open and clear dialogue and on working as a team,” he added.
COC Vice President Li Jing described Captain Husain as an old friend of China, and sent the best wishes of the COC leadership and the General Administration of Sport of China.
He congratulated the OCA on staging a successful 45th General Assembly over two days, with rich content, and which displayed the unity and solidarity of Asia. He added that the strong relationship between the OCA and COC was built on cooperation and mutual support.
“China will continue to support you and support the OCA and continue to play a positive role in the solidarity and stability as well as prosperity of Asian sport.”
He also praised the OCA’s leadership in the development of sport throughout the Asian continent, in particular the Asian Winter Games.
“The 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin in February was a great success – the second time for Harbin to host these games and the third time for China. This was an important step for winter sports following the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing,” he said.
“The OCA has also decided to establish a high-level winter sports training centre in Harbin for all of Asia. This will improve the level of development of winter sports in China and in Asia.
“It also demonstrates the high level of trust, friendship and cooperation between the Chinese Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia.”
