One Asia cultural show rocks to Bharatanatyam and Bhangra

Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 11, 2025: The “dynamism’ of Asia which IOC President Thomas Bach celebrated was on show during a vibrant and colourful One Asia cultural performance on the opening evening of the 45th OCA General Assembly.

Nearly 80 dancers and singers from China, India, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Lebanon and host country Kuwait put on a riveting and rollicking show which had the audience on the balcony seats at the Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad Cultural Centre clapping and tapping their toes.

It was a dynamic display as the rhythms and music from all five zones of Asia – East, West, Southeast, Central and South – were on show to an audience which included IOC President Thomas Bach and IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry.

In a lengthy keynote speech to delegates from the 45 Asian National Olympic Committees, Bach had highlighted the ‘dynamism’ of Asia as one of the key ingredients in the continents’ success in sports, as well as other areas.

This was epitomised by the traditional Lebanese ‘Dabka’ dance, or the Chinese martial art troupe showcasing their wushu skills – a Bruce Lee exponent with his nunchucks taking the cake.

But it was left to an Indian troupe – the Heartbeatz team – whose fusion mix of the traditional Indian classical dance, the Bharatanatyam, with the Punjabi bhangra to get the bodies moving in the aisles.

The 45th OCA General Assembly rocked on opening night.
