New Delhi, India, April 7, 2020: The Indian Olympic Association has thanked its member National Sports Federations, State Olympic Associations and other bodies for their unstinted support in donating funds for the Prime Minister’s CARES Fund.

Around 90 lakhs (US$117,500) have been raised by sporting bodies in India for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fund for relief efforts in the battle against the coronavirus outbreak.

“The Indian Olympic Association is deeply grateful to its member National Sports Federations, State Olympic Associations and other federations/bodies for extending their support and humble contributions towards the cause of our nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” the IOA posted in Team India’s Facebook page.

“In these challenging times, the coming together of our Olympic family to support the nation’s needs once again reinforces our belief that we shall always come out stronger to serve sports and make the nation proud.”

A total of 17 National Sports Federations, 15 State Olympic Associations and six other sporting bodies rallied to the IOA’s plea to raise money for the PM-CARES Fund.

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund was set up on March 28.

Many Indian athletes and cricketers have also contributed generously in an individual capacity.
