Singapore, May 6, 2025: The Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) held their Executive Board and Board of Directors (online) meeting on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Both the Executive Board and Board of Directors were updated on the AMMA events that took place in 2024:
*The 2nd AMMA Championships were held at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from July 11-13, 2024. The event showcased the growing popularity of MMA in Asia, with 94 athletes from 18 countries and regions in 19 weight categories.
The event was graced by the attendance and support of the Cambodian Prime Minister, His Excellency Hun Manet, emphasizing the significant role of sport in promoting international friendship and cultural exchange. Strong spectator turnout fuelled the passion and performance of the athletes and is a testament to the event’s success and MMA’s expanding influence.
*The third referee seminar was held from July 6-9, 2024 to enhance the skills and knowledge of MMA officials, ensuring professional refereeing during the 2nd AMMA Championships.
*AMMA, supported by the Nasyonal Mixed Martial Arts Pederasyon ng Pilipinas, organized the 1st AMMA Open from October 14-16, 2024 at the Grand Marriott Hotel in Manila. The event signified AMMA’s dedication to expand opportunities for athletes to compete on the continental stage and marked a significant milestone for the organization. A total of 88 athletes from 15 countries and regions competed in 11 weight categories. A total amount of USD176,000 was awarded to the winners of the Open event.
*The fourth referee seminar was held from October 11-13, 2024. The seminar further strengthened the referee pool, emphasizing better understanding of the AMMA rules, safety of athletes and professional refereeing.
In other news:
*As of October 2024, AMMA has over 100 qualified referees from 19 different countries/regions - an increase of 50 referees from 12 different countries/regions in 2023.
*MMA has been included as an exhibition sport at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December 2025 with six medal/weight categories.
*The Olympic Council of Asia has announced that MMA will be included as a medal sport at the following major Games:
*3rd Asian Youth Games in Manama, Bahrain from October 22-31, 2025
*20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026 with six events.
*7th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Riyadh in December 2026.
*Bahrain will host the 1st AMMA Youth Championships, which will serve as a qualifying event for the 2025 AYG – MMA competition. The AMMA Youth Championships will have 24 categories, inclusive of the 15 medal categories for the AYG.
*AMMA is in discussion with several cities to host the 3rd AMMA Championships in December 2025.
*The General Assembly will be held online on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
