Nagoya, Japan, April 30, 2025: The 20th Asian Games’ “floating Athletes’ Village” – a cruise ship docked in Nagoya Port – will accommodate 4,600 athletes and officials.
This figure was reported at the 1st Technical Delegates Meeting for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 at the Nagoya Tokyu Hotel on Wednesday.
Delegates heard that, of the 15,000 athletes and officials from 45 National Olympic Committees taking part in the 20th Asian Games, over half of them will be in Nagoya city.
There will be 4,600 on the cruise ship, 2,400 in the Asian Games “Villas” (temporary container homes) and 1,200 in hotels – a total of 8,200.
The meeting, which was attended by 350 people, including 67 Technical Delegates, learned that there will be five clusters with 30 forms of accommodation for athletes: Aichi (20 accommodations), Tokyo (2), Shizuoka (3), Gifu (4) and Osaka (1).
Athletes in the Asian Games Villas at Garden Pier will come from the following sports: water polo, basketball 5x5, football (women), ju-jitsu, modern pentathlon, soft tennis, volleyball, plus Chef de Missions.
Athletes in the cruise ship will come from: archery, basketball 3x3, canoe/kayak (sprint), cycling mountain bike, cycling BMX racing, football (men), gymnastics, handball, judo, kabaddi, kurash, mixed martial arts, rowing, rugby, sepaktakraw, sport climbing, squash, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
Athletes in Nagoya hotels: Badminton, cricket, football (men and women) and softball.
Together, the Asian Games Villas at Garden Pier and cruise ship at Kinjo Pier will form the Athletes’ Plaza. A shuttle bus service will cover the 6.5km distance between the two piers in 15 minutes.
There will be four athletes’ accommodation sub zones outside of Nagoya area but within Aichi prefecture:
*Owari (golf, handball – women) 400
*Chita (athletics, breaking, beach volleyball, cycling BMX freestyle, e-sports, fencing, skateboarding) 2,500
*West Mikawa (canoe/kayak – slalom, football – women, shooting, table tennis) 1,200
*East Mikawa (baseball, boxing, cycling – road, karate, sailing, surfing, taekwondo, triathlon) 1,700.
The other four accommodation clusters, outside of Aichi, are:
*Tokyo (swimming and diving, equestrian) 700
*Shizuoka (artistic swimming, cycling track, football – men) 400
*Gifu (football-women, hockey) 800
*Osaka (football – men) 100
The meeting also covered aspects such as uniforms, arrival and departure, transportation, logistics and food and beverage.
The rest of the three-day TD meeting will involve venue visits, one-on-one discussions and sports meetings.
