Kuwait City, Kuwait, April 28, 2025: IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry will attend the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia in Kuwait next month.
Addressing an online meeting of the OCA Executive Board, Director General Husain Al Musallam said Coventry would be accompanying IOC President Thomas Bach at the two-day OCA General Assembly on May 11-12.
“This is a great honour and a great moment for the OCA, that the first visit of the newly elected IOC President after her election will be to Asia,” said Captain Husain.
“Kirsty Coventry will be staying in Kuwait for a full three days and in that time plans to meet with all the National Olympic Committee Presidents, talk with athletes and show her full support for Asia.”
Coventry, who won two swimming gold and seven medals in total for Zimbabwe at five Olympic Games, will succeed Bach as IOC President on June 23 following her election victory in Greece on March 20. She will become the tenth IOC President and first female leader in history.
Captain Husain provided details of the 45th OCA General Assembly. The opening ceremony, including a “One Asia” cultural performance followed by welcome dinner, will take place on May 11. The business part of the meeting will be on May 12.
The OCA Executive Board also gave official recognition to the Asian Mind Sports Association, whose elected President is Gordon Tang, following a meeting in Bangkok attended by 29 National Olympic Committees. The NOCs elected a board of directors in line with the OCA constitution.
The EB also decided to transfer the cases of Nepal Olympic Committee and Lebanon Olympic Committee to the OCA Ethics Committee, with 60 days to investigate the issues. The OCA will inform the IOC of this move.
The EB also approved the financial accounts of the OCA to the end of 2024.
