Tehran, Iran, April 27, 2025: The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran has revealed that IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry has replied to a congratulatory letter sent in March by NOC President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa.
The letter from Kirsty Coventry to the Iran NOC President was received on April 23 and in it she had written:
“Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful congratulations on my election as 10th President of the International Olympic Committee. Your words of encouragement and warm wishes mean a great deal to me as I step into this important role, and they remind me of the incredible community that makes the Olympic Movement so special.
“The journey ahead is both inspiring and challenging but, with the continued support and dedication of friends and colleagues like you, I am confident that we can further strengthen the values of excellence, friendship and respect that the Olympic Games represent. Together, we will continue to build on the legacy of promoting peace, inclusivity and positive change through sport.
“Once again, thank you for your heartfelt message. I look forward to our continued collaboration in advancing the Olympic spirit and creating a brighter future for all through the power of sport.”
Kirsty Coventry, the first female IOC President, will succeed Thomas Bach, whose 12-year tenure ends on June 23, 2025.
