Hanoi, Vietnam, April 20, 2025: The Vietnam Olympic Committee is celebrating a silver medal for Mai Ngoc Anh in the women’s high jump at the 6th Asian U18 Athletics Championships Saudi 2025 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

“This is an outstanding achievement, affirming the development potential of the next generation of athletes,” the Vietnam Olympic Committee said on a social media post.

Mai Ngoc Anh, 17, cleared 1.69 metres to take the silver behind Dong Jialing (China), whose winning height was 1.73m. Yasmeen Roy (Kuwait) took the bronze with a clearance of 1.65m.

The head of Vietnam’s delegation, Nguyen Duc Nguyen, said the investment in the talent of the young high jumper was starting to pay off, as she had won gold at the 2024 Southeast Asian U18 Athletics Championships in Malaysia with a record of 1.68m.

The Vietnam Olympic Committee added: “This year's tournament is an important stepping stone in the long-term roadmap of Vietnamese youth athletics, preparing for major events such as the SEA Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games in the future.

“Mai Ngoc Anh's winning of the continental silver medal is not only an encouraging personal achievement but also a positive signal showing that the quality of youth training in Vietnamese athletics is making steady progress, creating a foundation for the future.”

The Asian U18 Athletics Championships, organised by the Thailand-based Asian Athletics Association, is a biennial competition for young athletes from across the continent. Since its inception in 2015, the event has drawn hundreds of athletes from over 30 countries and regions across Asia. This year’s event ran from April 15-18.
