Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games promises to be action-packed says organisers

Thimphu, Bhutan, April 2, 2025: The 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will be a spectacular sporting showcase overflowing with diverse and action-packed competition organisers promised on Wednesday, April 2.

 

In a comprehensive presentation to delegates at the OCA-OS Regional Forum in Thimphu, officials from Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) said preparations were full steam ahead for the September 19-October 4 continental extravaganza.

 

The Aichi-Nagoya Games will bring together athletes from 45 Asian National Olympic Committees and feature 41 sports, 58 disciplines and 441 events in an action-packed 16 days of competition. 

 

Among crucial dates and timeline for the Games unveiled by AINAGOC were:

·        Entry by Sport: End of April to May 2025

·        Entry by Number: July to September 2025

·        Entry by Name: June to July 2026

 

A series of test events will be held starting May, 2025 to fine-tune operations and logistics ahead of the Games. Furthermore to ensure a smooth accreditation and logistics preparation, NOCs will have the opportunity to use the accreditation system between December 2025 and May 2026 to register their delegates.

 

Among other key features unveiled were:

·        The Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium has been designated as the main venue. It is under construction and is due for completion in March, 2026. The Stadium will host both the opening and the closing ceremony and the athletic events. 

·        To ensure a smooth accreditation and logistics preparation, NOCs will have the opportunity to use the accreditation system between December 2025 and May 2026 to register their delegates.

·        The first Chefs de Mission Meeting (CDM) will take place from September 23-25, 2025. A second CDM is scheduled for May 2026.

·        To safeguard athlete health and safety, a network of 50-60 hospitals across the region will be on standby to provide medical care throughout the Games.
