Sana’a, Yemen, March 30, 2025: The Yemen Olympic Committee made a social media post on Sunday, March 30 dedicated to congratulating Kirsty Coventry on her victory in the election for IOC President on March 20.
“The Yemen Olympic Committee congratulates Ms. Kirsty on her election as President of the International Olympic Committee - a well-deserved achievement that reflects her competence and ambitious vision,” the YOC said on its Facebook account.
“We are confident that her leadership will strengthen the IOC’s mission, promote sports values and enhance international cooperation.”
The congratulatory message concluded: “We look forward to working with her for the advancement of the Olympic Movement and wish her success in her new role.”
Coventry, 41, is a five-time Olympic swimmer from Zimbabwe, appearing at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Games, winning two gold medals in the 200m backstroke in 2004 and 2008, along with four silvers and one bronze.
She was elected President at the 144th IOC Session in Greece on March 20, beating six other candidates to be the successor to Thomas Bach. The handover will be on June 23 – Olympic Day.
