Bhutan NOC set to host largest sports forum in Kingdom’s history

Thimphu, Bhutan, March 30, 2025: Bhutan is set to welcome distinguished sports leaders from across Asia as it hosts the prestigious Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)-Olympic Solidarity (OS) Regional Forum 2025 in Thimphu on April 2-3.

This landmark event marks the largest sporting forum ever held in the country, reinforcing Bhutan’s growing capacity to organize international events and strengthening its reputation in sports, tourism and diplomacy.

The forum will serve as a vital platform for regional collaboration in sports development, emphasizing the role of sports in fostering unity, progress and well-being.

Discussions will center on key topics, including the Olympic Solidarity Quadrennial Plan 2025-2028, preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026, the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain (October 22-31, 2025) and the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“As the host nation, Bhutan will showcase its commitment to the Olympic Movement, despite having a relatively small sports economy,” the Bhutan Olympic Committee said.

“The country continues to invest in sports as a means of upholding its sovereignty and strengthening its presence on the international stage. The forum offers a unique opportunity for Bhutan to share its vision, exchange ideas with international sporting bodies and foster long-term partnerships.”

By bringing together officials from 26 NOCs across East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia, along with representatives from the IOC and OCA, the forum will facilitate knowledge-sharing and capacity-building efforts.

In addition to the high-level discussions, the forum will feature several engaging side programs which are part of the OCA’s “Asian Games for All” campaign: the Asian Games Fun Run, Asian Games Youth Reporter Project and Asian Games Children’s Art Competition.

The Fun Run, set for Thursday, April 3 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, will involve a 2.5 km run to Buddha Point with 250 students from five schools, along with forum delegates.

*Dushanbe, Tajikistan, will host the second leg of the OCA-OS Regional Forum for NOCs from West Asia and Central Asia on April 6-7.
