New Delhi, India, April 2, 2020: The Indian Olympic Association has asked all national sports federations to map out training programmes to prepare their athletes for the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

In a statement released on Monday, IOA President Narinder Batra requested all the governing bodies of sports in the country to draft a training blueprint for its athletes looking ahead to the next two Olympic Games.

“All Olympic national sports federations are requested to please start their draft planning structure for preparation for Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024,” Batra said.

Soon after the new dates for Tokyo 2020 were announced, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta said: “The Indian Olympic Association along with the National Sports Federations welcome and support the new dates for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021.”

Nearly 80 Indian athletes have so far qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in seven sports – athletics, archery, boxing, equestrian, hockey (both men’s and women’s teams), shooting and wrestling.
