Bhutan NOC President Prince Jigyel inaugurates National Coaching Academy

Thimphu, Bhutan, March 26, 2025: The President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, participated in the inauguration of the National Coaching Academy at the BOC premises on Tuesday, March 25.

 

The ground-breaking event in the country’s sporting history is set to transform sports education, empower coaches and elevate Bhutanese athletes to new heights.

 

In his opening address, BOC Secretary General Sonam Karma Tshering, outlining the academy’s core mission, said: “This academy will serve as a hub for knowledge, innovation and collaboration. It will equip our coaches and school sports instructors with the tools, techniques and insights to unlock the full potential of our athletes.

 

“By integrating the latest advancements in sports science, we will ensure our coaches can optimise performance, prevent injuries and foster a culture of excellence.” 

 

A number of top officials from national sports federations took part in the opening ceremony. 

 

Also participating was Japanese duo Shigeki Sarado and Ms. Sharly Natsu Yazaki from Nippon Sports Science University, underlining Bhutan’s commitment to global collaboration in sport education.

 

The academy will get to work immediately with a number of programmes starting with a two-day Coaches Development Course and a 25-day Foundational Sport Science Certificate Course.
