Popular Maldivian football coach Ihusan Abdul Ghani passes away

Male, Maldives, March 24, 2025: The Maldives Olympic Committee has paid tribute to popular football coach Ihusan Abdul Ghani who passed away last Saturday, March 22. He was 51.

 

Ghani, who was Chef de Mission of the Maldivian contingent at the 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games, passed away while undergoing treatment for cancer at the Tree Top Hospital.

 

Ghani was assistant coach of the national football team when it won its first South Asian Football Federation Championship title in 2008.

 

Apart from coaching football, he was actively involved in sports administration as the Chairman of the Maldives Sports Corporation and a member of the National Sports Council.

 

The Maldives Olympic Committee posted on social media: “He put everyone before him and was calm and composed when faced with difficult situations. His tremendous contribution to the football community is unmatched. We wish his family strength in these difficult times.”
