Asia’s IOC Members congratulate IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry

Bangkok, Thailand, March 22, 2025: Asia’s IOC Members have joined in the global congratulations for the new IOC President, Kirsty Coventry.

 

IOC Member from Thailand, Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, said: “Let's celebrate! 

 

“A former Zimbabwean women’s swimmer, who competed five times at the Olympic Games, has, at the age of 41, been entrusted as the new IOC President.

 

“Kirsty Coventry is a close friend in the IOC. She will become the 10th IOC President and the first woman in history to do this duty.”

 

Singapore’s IOC Member Ng Ser Miang added: “Heartiest congratulations to Kirsty Coventry, the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee. 

 

“It was a historical moment for the Olympic Movement. We look towards the leadership of Kirsty to further the role of the Olympic Movement, contributing to world peace, harmony and sustainable development. Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together!”

 

The President of Mongolia NOC and IOC Member Battushig Batbold commented: “Congratulations to my friend Kirsty Coventry, the first woman and the first African to be elected as IOC President. This is a historic moment for the Olympic movement.”

 

Kirsty Coventry won a seven-candidate election at the 144th IOC Session in Greece on March 20 to succeed Thomas Bach as the 10th IOC President in history. The handover will take place on June 23 – Olympic Day.
