Baghdad, Iraq, March 17, 2025: The President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Dr. Aqeel Muften, received the Spanish Ambassador in Baghdad, Alicia Rico, and the Consul General, Carmen Boga, at the NOC Headquarters on Sunday, March 16.
Ambassador Rico confirmed Spain’s support for sporting projects in Iraq, especially those aimed at developing infrastructure, and expressed her happiness in the close cooperation between the Iraq NOC and its Spanish counterpart.
She also praised a previous memorandum of cooperation signed between the two NOCs and emphasised Spain’s readiness to support Iraqi sport in various disciplines, and not only football.
On his part, Dr. Muften welcomed the Spanish Ambassador and said the Iraq NOC was appreciative of all the efforts that Spain is making in supporting sport in Iraq.
Dr. Muften confirmed that closer ties will be forged between the two NOCs, and also invited Spanish teams to participate in sporting events in Iraq.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Muften and Ambassador Rico exchanged souvenirs. Also present at the meeting was Iraq NOC Secretary General Haitham Abdulhameed.
