Dushanbe, Tajikistan, March 16, 2025: An agreement to cooperate closely in physical culture and sports was signed between the governments of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
This cooperation agreement in sports between the two countries was signed on the sidelines of a State visit on March 13 by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to Kyrgyzstan where he met his counterpart President Sadyr Japarov.
The main order of business was signing an agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border – which had been closed since 2021.
On the periphery of this visit, a cooperation programme was signed between the Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports of the Tajikistan government and the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of physical culture and sports for 2025-2027.
President Rahmon is also the President of the Tajikistan National Olympic Committee.
This programme provides for:
· Development and implementation of joint projects
· Holding competition and sporting events
· Exchange of expertise
· Support for sports organisations
· Strengthening cooperation in the field of training elite athletes
The implementation of this agreement between the two countries is expected to contribute to an increase in sporting events, cooperation between the two National Olympic Committees and sports federations, and the development of young athletes in both nations.
