Sana’a, Yemen, March 10, 2025: The Yemen Olympic Committee marked International Women’s Day 2025 by holding an event for NOC members from the women’s sector and national female athletes and coaches on Saturday, March 8.
The event was held at the NOC Headquarters with participants also joining in online.
Second Vice President of the Yemen Olympic Committee, Ms. Louay Sabry, expressed her pride at the involvement of women in all facets of sport in the community and the pivotal role that they are playing.
Sabry urged the stars of the national teams to give their best to achieve their ambitions and raise the national flag in various international competitions in which Yemeni women are participating.
NOC Secretary General Mohammed Al-Ahjari conveyed the best wishes of the NOC President Abdulrahman Al-Akwa, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to unavoidable circumstances.
Al-Ahjari pointed out that sport was important for women, provided they compete in accordance with the teachings of religion and societal values and traditions. He said sport was not a means of entertainment, but rather had many benefits ranging from physical to mental, and that it gave women the strength to live life with ease and simplicity despite hardships.
Abdullah Al-Sasfani, a member of the NOC’s Board of Directors, also spoke on the occasion, touching on the major roles women have played in society, including sports.
Athletes and coaches who also attended expressed their thanks to the NOC for organising this event on International Women’s Day.
