Baghdad, Iraq, March 3, 2025: Layla Mohammed Amin, a member of the Executive Board of the National Olympic Committee of Iraq and Chair of the Gender Equality Committee, met with Sardar Ismail, Director General of Sport in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, last week.
Mrs. Amin conveyed the greetings of Iraq NOC President Dr. Aqeel Muften and his wishes for the continuation of the close cooperation in sporting ties between the Iraq NOC and the Kurdistan Region.
She also shared her vision for promoting equality in sport and motivating women in Iraq to practise their desired sport in accordance with the aspirations of the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Olympic Committee under the guidance of the Iraq NOC.
The two sides agreed to hold a women’s sports festival in Erbil Governorate in Kurdistan Iraq in April this year, and with the aim that it will become an annual tradition.
The Director General of Sport in Kurdistan Iraq also made a presentation of sport in the region and how it can serve to promote youth athletes across the country.
The meeting was also attended by officials from the Iraq NOC, the adviser to the President of the Iraq NOC, Ishtar Ali, and a number of women representatives of sporting clubs in the region.
