China’s Zang Yize wins OCA Athletes Committee election in Harbin

Harbin, China, February 14, 2025: Chinese short track speed skater Zang Yize was announced as the winner of the election for a place on the OCA Athletes Committee on Friday.

 

Zang received 261 of the 843 votes cast by athletes in five polling stations at hotels during the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin.

 

Six National Olympic Committees nominated a candidate for the sole vacancy for a winter sports representative on the OCA Athletes Committee and the voting period ran from February 8-13.

 

OCA Athletes Committee Chair Ding Ning, the retired three-time Olympic Games table tennis champion, revealed the winner at a press conference in the Main Press Centre. 

 

“We look forward to welcoming Zang Yize on to the OCA Athletes Committee and having another voice from ice and snow sports,” she said. 

 

“We have an experienced combination of summer and winter sports athletes and we are sure our new member will be able to make a big contribution to our work.”

 

Ding Ning thanked the volunteers and staff for their “great efforts” in making the process run smoothly over the past few days, and added that the high turn-out of voters reflected the importance of the Athletes Committee.

 

Zang, 26, was born in Harbin and is a dedicated athlete advocate.

With gold and silver medals at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games and a silver at the World Championships, she’s committed to uniting athletes and promoting ice and snow sports throughout Asia.

 

OCA announces the results of the Athletes’ Committee elections in a press conference held today.

 

The press conference was attended by Ding Ning, Athletes’ Committee Chair, Shiva Keshavan, Vice Chair, Jamyang Namgyal, OCA Athletes Department Manager, Wissam Trkmani, and Jian Zhou.

 

A total of 843 athletes cast their votes, and the following athletes secured the results:

🇰🇿 Aiza Mambekova (Kazakhstan) – 149 votes

🇰🇷 Hojun Kim (Republic of Korea) – 130 votes

🇺🇿 Tukhtaev Komiljon (Uzbekistan) – 56 votes
