OCA signs MoU with Asian Boxing

Harbin, China, February 8, 2025: The Olympic Council of Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Asian Boxing at the Shangri-La Harbin on Saturday.

The MoU was signed by the OCA Director General, Husain Al Musallam, and Filipino executive Victorico “Ricky” Vargas on behalf of Asian Boxing’s Thai President, Pichai Chunhavajira.

“I am very happy that the family in Asian Boxing can be together in the right direction,” Mr. Al Musallam said at the ceremony.

“As you know, the Olympic Council of Asia is always supporting boxing and we are committed to develop the boxing.”

Mr. Al Musallam added: “The IOC is very happy about what we have achieved and I think, under the leadership of Mr. Pichai, that things move in the right direction. Now you have 23 countries joining already and hopefully more is coming.”

Mr. Al Musallam said the OCA had communicated with its member National Olympic Committees and would do so again to inform them of the MoU signing ceremony for cooperation with Asian Boxing.

Mr. Vargas thanked the OCA for welcoming Asian Boxing executives to the Asian Winter Games in Harbin and for the OCA support.

“Asia is behind the Olympic Council of Asia and we thank you very much for supporting boxing,” he said. “It is our dream to bring boxing to the Los Angeles Olympics.”

Mr. Al Musallam said the OCA shared that goal and that he would inform the IOC of this latest development, while pledging the OCA’s continued support of Asian Boxing.

“We will move forward. Rest assured the Olympic Council of Asia supports boxing in Los Angeles,” he said.
