Winter Asiad - hot off the press in Harbin

Harbin, China, February 5, 2025: Harbin 2025 is big news – especially for the Beijing-based China Daily English language newspaper.

The China Daily published the first edition of Winter Asiad – the official publication for the 9th Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 – on Wednesday, February 5.

The eight-page paper is packed with features and photos, and the front cover is adorned with the headline “Ahead of the Curve”, referring to the fact that Harbin is “ready and raring to go”.

There is a page of comments from sports dignitaries, including OCA Deputy Director General Vinod Kumar Tiwari, IOC Member Zhang Hong and OCA Athletes Committee Chair Ding Ning, who says: “I am very happy that the Asian Winter Games are being held in my hometown, Harbin.

“I will also participate in the event as Chair of the Athletes Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia. I warmly welcome everyone to come to Heilongjiang and Harbin to experience the charm of this city, including its food, scenery and the warm hospitality of its people.”

Winter Asiad Edition 1 also highlights the five competition venues in Harbin for the ice sports and in Yabuli for the snow events, and traces the history and growth of the Asian Winter Games back to the inaugural edition in Sapporo, Japan in 1986.

And no Harbin publication would be complete without an article on the world-famous Harbin Ice and Snow World, now in its 26th year and carrying the slogan of the Asian Winter Games - “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia”.
