Afghanistan takes ‘valuable step’ in women’s cricket

Melbourne, Australia, January 29, 2025: The Vice President of Afghanistan National Olympic Committee, Robina Jalali, has posted a congratulatory message to the Afghan refugee women’s cricket team on their first exhibition match in Melbourne, Australia.

 

“This event is a valuable step in showcasing the ability, willpower and talent of Afghan women in the international arena,” Robina Jalali wrote on Facebook.

 

“Best of luck to all the players on the team, especially Captain Nahida Sepan and Feroze Amiri, and thank Australian Cricket Federation, Cricket Without Borders and the Australian Government for their support.”

 

Robina concluded: “Afghan women need support more than ever. Hoping for more successes and brighter days.”

 

The Afghanistan NOC Vice President received an official participation certificate from the IOC and Paris 2024 Organising Committee for her part in organising the Afghan team to join the Paris Olympics with six athletes – three women and three men.
