Astana, Kazakhstan, January 29, 2025: The Kazakhstan public will be able to follow the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China live on Qazsport Channel, the National Olympic Committee reported on its Instagram page on Tuesday, January 28.
Kazakhstan Radio and Television Channel announced acquisition of rights to broadcast the Harbin AWG from February 7-14.
A total of 138 Kazakh athletes – 72 men and 66 women – will represent the country in Harbin. This will be the national team’s sixth Asian Winter Games, and the second one in Harbin since 1996. Kazakhstan has won a total of 196 medals at these Games – 78 gold, 62 silver and 56 bronze.
At the last Asian Winter Games in 2017, in Sapporo, Japan, the national team clinched 32 medals and finished fourth in the overall medal standings.
Ice hockey player Adil Beketayev and short track speed skater Olga Tikhonova are the flag bearers of the national team at the opening ceremony.
Among the team members are champions from previous Asian Winter Games: Olga Poltoranina (biathlon, 2011), Yevgeniy Rymaryov (ice hockey, 2011), Roman Starchenko (ice hockey, 2011), Darya Klimina (biathlon, 2017), Kirill Savitskiy (ice hockey, 2017), and Dmitry Grents (ice hockey, 2017).
Assam Assylkhan, 15, is the youngest member of the team, and will represent Kazakhstan in freestyle skiing, and 41-year-old ski mountaineer Denis Vlasov is the oldest team member.
