Tashkent, Uzbekistan, January 27, 2025: OCA Director General and World Aquatics President Husain Al-Musallam paid an official visit to Uzbekistan on Saturday, January 25.
It was the latest stopover of a swing through Central Asia by Mr. Al-Musallam, who had earlier visited Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
He was warmly welcomed by the Minister of Sports, Adham Ikramov, OCA Vice President and First Deputy President of the Uzbekistan NOC Otabek Umarov, and NOC Secretary General Oybek Kasimov.
In talks, Mr. Al-Musallam noted that he was aware of the growing interest in sports in Uzbekistan, and stated this would encourage leaders of international organisations to work closely and cooperate with the country’s sports officials.
During his visit, Mr. Al-Musallam also discussed the issue of developing aquatic sports in the country and had talks with the President of the Uzbekistan Swimming Federation, Kudratilla Rafikov.
Views were exchanged on topics such as providing the water sports centre being built in the Olympic City in Tashkent with the most modern equipment, holding international competitions, and improving the skills of local swimmers.
The head of the swimming federation Rafikov also disclosed that new swimming pools have been built in many parts of the country based on modern international standards.
Mr. Al-Musallam also visited the historic cities of Samarkand and Tashkent.
