Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, March 29, 2020: It is perhaps highly appropriate that Ilfat Abdullin, one of the top archers in Kazakhstan, rates ‘The Untouchables’ as one of his favourite movies and ‘Robinson Crusoe’ among his best books.
Both titles are entirely suited to the times we live in.
Abdullin - a member of Kazakhstan’s men’s archery team which has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – is now sequestered at home like the rest of his countrymen and, through the NOC, has recommended books and movies which keep him going.
“Since we all now have more time to spend at home, I’m sharing my top five movies to watch as well as my favourite books. My movies are: The Program (about the career of American cyclist Lance Armstrong), The Untouchables, Ford v Ferrari, Capernaum and Legend 17.
“My favourite books are: Muhammad Ali: The Battle of the Century, The books of Dale Carnegie, Robinson Crusoe, You Are A Badass at Making Money and Profit from the Unknown.”
Abdullin, along with Denis Gankin and Sanzhar Mussayev, performed successfully at the World Archery Championships last year to qualify for the Olympics. They will take part in the team as well as individual events.
With the Olympic dream still burning brightly for 2021, Abdullin is on a strict training regime at home.
“I decided that I will stick to the same regime as in the training camp. So, I wake up early. Then jogging, bike riding and of course shooting. I brought everything I needed for that. I measured the right distance to the target, 70 metres, and shoot at that,” Abdullin disclosed.
“The main thing is to have a goal, desire and aspiration. Hopefully everything will be fine. Cheers, everyone. We’re all together. Take care of yourselves and your beloved,” Abdullin added.
