Damascus, Syria, March 27, 2020: Renowned long-distance swimmer Firas Mualla has been congratulated by the Olympic Council of Asia after his election as President of the Syrian Olympic Committee.
Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the OCA, told Musalla it was a "great pleasure" to learn of the news.
"Please accept my heartiest congratulations on the same," he said.
"I am sure the Syrian Olympic Committee and sports in general in Syria will continue to benefit from your knowledge and wisdom."
Mualla was elected as head of the General Sports Federation and of the Syrian Olympic Committee in the 10th public conference of the General Sports Federation held on February 16.
He is well known on the international swimming circuit and, in 2017, he received the Award of Merit presented by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
“Getting this international award is a crowning of the efforts of every Syrian athlete,” Mualla said at the time in a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
He added that the ANOC award was an additional incentive to achieve greater things for the Syrian Olympic Committee and for swimming.
