OCM thanks badminton player Vivian Hoo for medal-filled career

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, January 14, 2025: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to Rio 2016 Olympian Vivian Hoo Kah Mun as she bids farewell to her badminton career following her final tournament at the Malaysia Open 2025.

 

Vivian, 34, has represented Malaysia in all major multi-sport events sanctioned by the OCM, including the SEA Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games.

 

“Throughout her career, she has made remarkable contributions, securing a total of 13 medals in the Women's Doubles and Mixed Team category across the SEA Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games,” the OCM said in a social media post.

 

“Additionally, she has also contributed medals for Malaysia at prestigious events such as the Sudirman Cup, Asian Championships, Asia Team Championships, World Junior Championships and Asian Junior Championships. The OCM wishes Vivian all the very best in her future endeavours.”

 

Vivian won one gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the SEA Games; one bronze in the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014; and three gold and one silver in the Commonwealth Games. 

 

She announced her retirement via social media on January 10.

 

“It’s time to say goodbye. Stepping off the court, badminton will always remain an inseparable part of my life. This sport has not only shaped my life but has also given me countless precious memories, valuable experiences and an enduring love and passion.

“Thank you, badminton, for teaching me many life lessons, for showing me that dreams can be pursued, and for helping me understand perseverance and the importance of never giving up. These experiences will be the most valuable treasures in my life,” Vivian wrote.
