Beijing, China, January 6, 2025: The Global Times in China has picked out the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin next month as one of the most important events of the year.

The China state-controlled media outlet includes the Harbin AWG from February 7-14 in the calendar of China’s major events of 2025.

“From the 9th Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 to the Shenzhou-20, Shenzhou-21 and Tianzhou-9 missions, check out China’s 2025 major events calendar,” Global Times reports in an infographic.

While the 9th AWG has been highlighted as the February attraction, the Global Times says that China’s manned space programme will launch the Shenzhou-20 and Shenzhou-21 crewed missions and the Tianzhou-9 cargo craft for in-orbit supplies at some point during the year.

Other highlights of the year include the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in August and the 104th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on July 1.

The presence of the Harbin Asian Winter Games in this list highlights the support of the Chinese government and sports authorities at all levels as a record number of National Olympic Committees, 33, prepare to gather in Harbin for six sports, 11 disciplines and 64 events.
