Kuwait City, Kuwait, January 4, 2025: The Olympic Council of Asia is urging the 45 National Olympic Committees to nominate a winter sports athlete for election to the OCA Athletes Committee.
There is one place open on the new-look Athletes Committee for a winter sports athlete, and the OCA will be conducting an election among athletes at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China from February 7-14, 2025.
The deadline for NOCs to nominate a candidate is January 10, as stated in a letter announcing the election circulated on December 8, 2024.
“If your NOC intends to propose a candidate for the elections, kindly ensure that all required documents are submitted by January 10, 2025, or earlier,” said Jamyang Namgyal, Manager of the OCA Athletes Department.
"It is crucial to have strong representation from winter sports on our committee to ensure their unique perspectives and needs are addressed.”
Athletes who are taking part in the Harbin AWG are eligible to be nominated by their respective NOC, along with athletes who participated in the previous two editions of the AWG – Astana-Almaty 2011 and Sapporo 2017 - provided they have competed in a Winter Olympic sport discipline.
The OCA Athletes Committee election manual, a candidature proposal form and election and campaign guidelines were also sent to all NOCs with the circular on December 8.
The OCA Athletes Committee is led by the Chair, retired Chinese table tennis ace Ding Ning. Six-time Winter Olympian Shiva Keshavan of India is Vice Chair.
