Kuwait and Kyrgyzstan to kick off Asian Winter Games in men’s ice hockey

Harbin, China, January 3, 2025: Kuwait and Kyrgyzstan will have the honour of being the first teams in action at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China next month.

 

The teams from West Asia and Central Asia will clash in the first men’s ice hockey Group B game of the programme, facing off at 9am on Monday, February 3 – four days before the opening ceremony.

 

Kuwait and Kyrgyzstan will be followed on to the ice by Singapore and Bahrain, also in Group B, starting at 1pm.

 

There will be a total of six ice hockey games on February 3, including two women’s games in Group B – Thailand v Chinese Taipei at 3.30pm and Hong Kong China v Kazakhstan at 7.30pm.

 

Curling will start the following day, on Tuesday, February 4, with two games in the mixed doubles round-robin competition..

 

The 9th Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 Organising Committee (HAWGOC) released the competition schedule by session on January 2.

 

According to the schedule, China will make its debut in the curling mixed doubles round-robin on the morning of February 4.

 

On the evening of the same day, China will compete against the Republic of Korea in their opening match of men’s ice hockey. 

 

The highly anticipated short track speed skating competition will be held over two action-paced days, on February 8 and 9, with nine gold medals up for grabs. Speed skating will be held over three days - February 8-10, with 14 gold medals.

 

There will be a total of 64 events in 11 disciplines of six sports, with 32 ice events in Harbin and 32 snow events in Yabuli.
