Opening day offers most gold medals at Harbin Asian Winter Games

Harbin, China, December 27, 2024: The Harbin Asian Winter Games Organising Committee has published the final competition schedule for the 9th AWG next February.

 

Although the official dates of the 9th Asian Winter Games are February 7-14, 2025, the action will kick off four days before the opening ceremony with men’s and women’s ice hockey on Monday, February 3.

 

Curling will start the following day, and both these team sports will run right through the Asian Winter Games until the closing ceremony on February 14.

 

Of the 64 events, speed skating will offer the most gold medals with 14, followed by short track speed skating with nine and cross-country skiing with six.

 

The first full day of competition – Saturday, February 8 – will produce the most gold medals, 17, followed by Sunday, February 9 with 13. This means that 30 of the 64 gold medals will be presented on the first weekend of the Games.

 

The 64 events will see 32 ice events in Harbin and 32 snow events in Yabuli. There will be five competition venues in Harbin, as well as the Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Centre which will stage the opening ceremony on February 7 and the closing ceremony on February 14.

 

This year’s Asian Winter Games will set new records in terms of the number of participating National Olympic Committees (33) and athletes (1,256 – 746 male and 510 female athletes).
