Uzbekistan honours Olympic stars at National Sports Awards

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, December 24, 2024: Two-time Olympic boxing champion Hasanboy Dusmatov was recognised as the Best Male Athlete of the Year at Uzbekistan’s National Sports Awards 2024 on Monday, December 23.

 

Judo Olympic champion Diyora Keldiyorova won the Best Female Athlete of the Year Award.

 

Dusmatov won gold medals at the 2024 Paris and 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He also won the gold medal in the flyweight category at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

 

Keldiyorova won judo Olympic gold in Paris in the women’s 52kg event.

 

The National Sports Awards 2024 was held at the Museum of Olympic and Paralympic Glory in Tashkent. 

 

Among the dignitaries attending were the Minister of Sports Adkham Ikramov, Olympic Council of Asia Vice President Otabek Umarov and Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee Secretary General Oybek Kasimov.

 

Abdukodir Khusanov, a member of the Uzbekistan national football team, was named Best Young Athlete of the Year.

 

The Uzbekistan national boxing team was once again recognised as Team of the Year and boxing’s Tulkin Kilichev was named Coach of the Year.

 

Uzbekistan won eight gold medals at Paris 2024 to finish 13th in the rankings. Five of those eight gold medals came from men’s boxing.
